Learn More About the Differences Between Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

Posted .

Are you an adult who’s considering braces? Then you might be wondering what type is right for you. Shirck Orthodontics offers a wide range of services to patients from five convenient locations in Ohio.

Two of those services include Invisalign and traditional braces. Many adults want to avoid traditional braces if they can, and that’s understandable. Not every patient is a candidate for a service like Invisalign, though. As great as Invisalign is, it was designed to address small cosmetic issues. For instance, many Invisalign patients wore braces in the past and now need a little help readjusting teeth that have moved out of alignment. Invisalign is perfect for this.

However, patients with more advanced needs will find that traditional braces are still their best option. Thankfully, there are braces that use clear or tooth-colored brackets and wires so that care is more discreet than it might be.  By providing clear braces to Pataskala, New Albany, Westerville, Newark and Powell patients, Dr. Shirck is able to offer comprehensive care that meets a wide variety of needs, with an emphasis on personalized care.

We offer various orthodontic options for your smile:

-Clear or Ceramic Braces: These are almost invisible solutions so you can flash your smile confidently without hesitation.

-Same-Day Braces: We will evaluate your teeth to determine what needs correcting, take a scan of your teeth for a 3D model and then Dr. Jeff, Dr. Soo or Dr. Betina will place your new braces so you can be on your way!

-Traditional Braces: Metal braces have a long history of successful outcomes (over 100 years)! The brackets are attached with bonding cement to the teeth, connected with the arch wire and small elastics (ligatures) to the brackets.

-Early Orthodontic Screening: The American Association of Orthodontics®, promotes early orthodontic evaluation at the age of 7 years for children to have their first orthodontic exam to guide their development as needed.

-Two-Phase Treatment: This is done with children to ensure proper development. In Phase One, we ensure your child’s jaws are positioned correctly so their teeth can erupt and develop on their own. In Phase Two, our orthodontists will assess their teeth to see if they are harmonious with each other along with the lips, cheeks and tongue after which braces or different types of orthodontics are recommended.
