Nothing slows down straightening a smile more than an unexpected cavity! Thankfully, patients have plenty of great tools to choose from in the fight against tooth decay, particularly when it comes to electric toothbrushes. Which ones would your dentist in Powell recommend the most? Find out more below!

Oral-B Pro 1000

This particular toothbrush is at the top of the list for many dentists and orthodontists because it offers an ideal balance of effectiveness, convenience, and affordability. Compared to all other electric toothbrushes on the market, it’s moderately priced, and its oscillating brush head is able to deeply clean the teeth using up to 8,000 strokes per minute! This is tremendously helpful when trying to remove plaque and food debris from between brackets and wires. With a waterproof handle and two-week battery, it’s an excellent choice for children and adults alike.

Philips Sonicare 2

As its name indicates, the Philips Sonicare 2 is an ultrasonic toothbrush, which means instead of the brush head oscillating to clean the teeth, it vibrates tens of THOUSANDS of times per minute. It’s slightly more expensive than the Oral-B, but the narrow brush head and additional cleaning capability make it more comfortable for many patients and allow someone to adequately clean even the smallest spaces within the mouth. It’s an ideal choice for orthodontic patients striving to stave off cavities.

Greater Goods Sonic Toothbrush

Less well known than the other two brushes on this list, the Greater Goods Sonic Toothbrush offers an unbeatable price point (less than $20!), multiple cleaning modes (which the others don’t have), and it also comes with two differently colored brush heads so more than one person can use the handle. Patients can also choose different kinds of bristles for the brush head, though it’s recommended to only use soft bristles.

So Which One is Best?

Each one of these toothbrushes would be an excellent choice for someone undergoing orthodontic treatment, especially if they are currently using a manual brush. However, this list is really just scratching the surface, as there is an almost endless variety of excellent electric toothbrushes out there. If you have trouble deciding which one is best for you or your child, simply ask your orthodontist, and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
