How Do Invisalign Clear Braces Straighten Teeth?

Before your Invisalign treatment plan can be created, Dr. Shirck will take detailed impressions of your teeth to make sure that they can be straightened using the Invisalign treatment system. Once the appropriate treatment is confirmed, a customized plan will be developed. Dr. Shirck will show you the projected series of movements your teeth will undergo, so that you will be able to see exactly how your teeth are expected to look at the end of your Invisalign treatment before it even begins. Dr. Shirck will send the treatment plan to the Invisalign labs, where your custom clear braces are specially fabricated. You will receive, wear, and exchange a new set of braces every few weeks with quick progress checks with Dr. Shirck about every six weeks until your treatment is complete.

Why Choose Invisalign Clear Braces?

  • The clear braces are easily removable for brushing, flossing, and eating.
  • You can view your results before you even start treatment.
  • No painful brackets or wires.
  • No painful adjustment appointments.
  • Complete your treatment discretely.

Straight Talk: The Importance of Pediatric Orthodontics

February 10, 2015

160908327When should you start to be concerned about your child’s smile? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have a pediatric orthodontic screening by age 7. When your child turns 7, their teeth and jaws have developed enough to see if there will be any serious orthodontic problems in their future. In most cases, treatment is not actually necessary at age 7, but it will give you and their dentist time to monitor their development and decide on the best path of treatment. You can make an appointment for the pediatric orthodontic screening your child needs with Dr. Shirck today. Shirck Orthodontic’s three convenient locations deliver quality care daily throughout New Albany, OH, Pataskala, Westerville, Sunbury, New Albany, Alexandria, Granville, Johnstown, Newark, Reynoldsburg, Blacklick, and the surrounding communities.

What Is Pediatric Orthodontics Treatment?

Pediatric orthodontists consider more than just how your child’s smile looks. Dr. Shirck will examine the movement and growth of the jaw and use panoramic x-rays to look at tooth roots. Dr. Shirck will also check for impacted, missing, and overcrowded teeth. If orthodontic treatment is needed, Dr. Shirck will be able to provide many treatment choices and a variety of orthodontic appliance types including metals, ceramics and plastics, with removable or bonded brackets.

Does Your Child Need Pediatric Orthodontic Treatment?

Issues arising from crowding, thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, premature loss of baby teeth, or poor breathing caused by enlarged adenoids or tonsils can all contribute to the need for pediatric orthodontic treatment. There are also hereditary factors like: extra teeth, large teeth, missing teeth, and wide spacing or small jaws. If you notice any of the following warning signs, you should make an immediate pediatric orthodontic screening appointment for your child:

  • Off-schedule loss of baby teeth
  • Chewing problems
  • Mouth breathing
  • Prolonged and persistent thumb sucking
  • Crowded, misplaced, or blocked teeth
  • Jaw noises
  • Teeth that don’t fit together properly
  • Jaws and teeth that are disproportionate
  • Crowded front teeth after age seven

New Albany Pediatric Orthodontics Appointments

Studies have shown that many pediatric orthodontic problems are more easily corrected when the patient’s skeleton is still developing. By correcting pediatric orthodontic problems at a young age, Dr. Shirck can better prepare the mouth for the eventual eruption of adult teeth. Pediatric orthodontic treatment will gently administer a constant force in carefully controlled directions, to slowly move teeth into proper alignment. Don’t take chances with your child’s smile. Make a pediatric orthodontic appointment with Dr. Shirck today. Shirck Orthodontics has three locations located conveniently to serve all of New Albany, OH, Pataskala, Westerville, Sunbury, New Albany, Alexandria, Granville, Johnstown, Newark, Reynoldsburg, Blacklick, and the neighboring areas.

Get Incognito Orthodontics with Hidden Lingual Braces in New Albany, OH

January 10, 2015

517184557Are you seeking a truly invisible orthodontics solution? If given a choice, most patients who need orthodontic treatment would choose the least visible treatment method. However, clear braces treatments, like Invisalign and ClearCorrect, are sometimes unable to correct certain severe malocclusion problems. In this scenario, patients don’t have to settle for traditional brackets and wires. They can still get the discrete orthodontics treatment they want with a new set of lingual braces. Lingual braces are completely invisible because they are hidden naturally by your teeth. If you want to explore the lingual braces solution, make an appointment for an orthodontic treatment evaluation with Dr. Shirck today. Shirck Orthodontics proudly serves patients of all ages throughout New Albany, OH, Pataskala, Westerville, Sunbury, New Albany, Alexandria, Granville, Johnstown, Newark, Reynoldsburg, Blacklick, and the surrounding communities.

What Are Lingual Braces?

Lingual braces are truly invisible braces. Unlike other types of braces, lingual braces are placed behind your teeth, not out front. With lingual braces, only you and your orthodontist will know that you’re undergoing treatment.

How Are Lingual Braces Placed?

At your first lingual braces appointment Dr. Shirck will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are then sent to a dental lab where your custom lingual brackets are created using CAD/CAM technology and rapid prototyping. The wires are created and shaped using state-of-the-art robotic technology. This process may take up to six weeks. Once complete, Dr. Shirck will use a precise placement process to cement the braces onto your teeth. Your treatment time will vary based on your treatment plan.

Why Choose Lingual Braces?

If you have a need to look your best, even while you complete your treatment, lingual braces are your best bet. With ceramic braces, the brackets are tooth-colored, but the metal wire connecting them is still visible. With clear braces, the aligners are easily removable, but not completely invisible. But lingual braces are truly invisible. Lingual braces are also the better choice for patients who actively play wind instruments or participate in sports.

New Albany Lingual Braces Appointments

The placement of lingual braces requires specialized skills. Not every dentist or orthodontist is qualified to administer lingual braces because they require extra training. Dr. Shirck is a highly qualified orthodontist, well experienced in the placement of lingual braces. You can make an appointment for your lingual braces evaluation with Dr. Shirck today. Shirck Orthodontics has three locations to serve patients throughout New Albany, OH, Pataskala, Westerville, Sunbury, New Albany, Alexandria, Granville, Johnstown, Newark, Reynoldsburg, Blacklick, and the nearby areas.

Why Is Orthodontic Treatment So Important?

December 10, 2014

78750927Seeking the orthodontic treatment you need, will not only improve your smile, it will also protect your overall dental health. Crooked, spaced, gapped, turned, or misaligned teeth can be hard to maintain and may lead to periodontal disease, tooth decay, or even tooth loss.  Orthodontic problems can also cause abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, speech problems, difficulty chewing, and damage to the temporomandibular joints (TMJ Disorder).  Malocclusions like protruding upper teeth can also increase the possibility of fracture after dental trauma. You can prevent these problems by making an appointment with Dr. Shirck today for your orthodontic treatment consultation. Shirck Orthodontics proudly serves patients throughout New Albany, OH, Pataskala, Westerville, Sunbury, New Albany, Alexandria, Granville, Johnstown, Newark, Reynoldsburg, Blacklick, and the surrounding communities.

When Should You Seek Orthodontic Treatment For Your Child?

Every child is different, so there is no single answer to this question.  However, the American Association of Orthodontics recommends that every child get an orthodontic evaluation by age 7, or sooner if an orthodontic problem is detected earlier.  In some cases, early intervention utilizing your child’s growth can make corrective orthodontic treatment faster and easier.

When Should You Seek Orthodontic Treatment For Yourself?

It’s never too late. Orthodontic treatment for those with healthy teeth and gums can be successful at any age.  Many adults are choosing orthodontic treatment to improve their smile and support good oral health.

Keeping Braces Clean

April 24, 2014

brushing with bracesIf you’re wearing braces, learning how to care for your teeth during treatment is important. That’s what we want to look at in today’s post. Below are five tips for making sure your smile stays in great shape while your braces move your teeth into their ideal position.

Be Thorough

When you brush, don’t get in a hurry. We recommend brushing each tooth for at least 10 seconds, especially where your teeth and braces meet because it’s easy for food to get caught around brackets. Brushing at an angle can help you get your brackets as clean as possible.

Brush the Whole Tooth

When you brush, it’s easy to focus on just the front of teeth, but cleaning the whole tooth is important. By focusing on every angle, you’re protecting your smile from the decay that can result from food and bacteria coming together.

Have a Toothbrush Handy

Patients without braces should brush at least twice a day; patients with braces should brush after every meal, if possible. To make that easier, we recommend bringing a toothbrush with you to work or school so you can brush immediately after lunch. If you’re unable to do this, take some time to thoroughly rinse your mouth with water instead.

Fluoride Is Your Friend

Why is fluoride the active ingredient in toothpastes and some mouthwashes? Because it helps strengthen tooth enamel and protect you from the destructive power of bacteria and plaque buildup. Make sure you’re getting enough fluoride on a daily basis by brushing with a quality toothpaste and rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash.

Visit Your Dentist Twice a Year

As you straighten your smile, you need to see Dr. Shirck regularly so he can check your progress. However, you should also see your regular dentist at least twice a year for checkups and cleanings. During your checkups, your dentist will look for signs of decay or gum disease and offer care if he or she finds anything.
